I got a call from my Apple store today telling me that they had an exchange for my week 37 model today. Now that it has been fully charged and synced with all my music, video, and photos I wanted to show the unbelievable difference between the two screens. I took two pictures under the same lighting setting and the same brightness settings on both ipods. I’ll let you decided for yourself which one looks better.

The above photo is from my week 37 ipod Touch.
This photo is from my new week 38 ipod Touch.
Big difference?!? I think so…
**UPDATE** (9/27/07)
The picture below was submitted by Spinstorm on ilounge.
The iPhone and iPod Touch are both displaying the same picture (Jay-Z album cover). The iPhone is on the left and a week 37 iPod Touch is on the right. Once I take a photo of my week 38 iPod Touch displaying the same image I will post it to show a comparison.

Bottom line: If you are one of the ones with a 37 in your serial number on your ipod, don’t tell yourself it’s supposed to be like that. Exchange it! The difference is night and day between the two serial numbers.
Keep on top of the latest updates!

All I have to say is WOWWWW.
I knew there was a difference since I have seen all the complaints, but now I can finally see the difference.
Thanks for making this so clear. I’m returning mine today.

I would say that is quite the difference. Thanks for taking the time to post this for all of us to see.

You should note here that the iTouch does not have a built-in camera. The way you’ve worded your story, it leaves the reader believing you took two pictures with your two iTouch iPods, one with the “37″ iTouch and one with the newer iTouch.
In reality, you are showing the difference between display of photos you took elsewhere and imported into your iTouch.
Correct?
You should make it clear so that people don’t rush in to buy an iTouch believing they could take photos with it (as the iPhone does).

I call shenanigans, at least until we see them side by side.

I think this pretty much confirms what everyone has been talking about.

And I thought I had a bad screen, yours looks much worse than mine. I’ve been debating weather or not to return mine, but after seeing the comparison I think I have my answer.
Thanks for the post!

Yeah, the girl on the bottom is hotter, =P. So you need someone to take that faulty touch off your hands?
September 26, 2007 at 11:48 pm |
lol sorry man, it’s already been exchanged for the new one!
September 27, 2007 at 1:18 am |
Wow, wow, wow. What a big difference a weeks makes. lol.
September 27, 2007 at 3:45 am |
Yeah. You know they all know they are the same picture with one brightened up a little, probably in the Wal Mart photo editor software, right? The author of the blog is making fools of you ALL!

Lunawolf,
This is a documented issue all over the web. The week 37 screens are inferior to the week 38 screens.
Perhaps next time you should read up before making such a foolish post.

wow. glad apple is actually fixing these things
September 27, 2007 at 10:04 am |
OOOK. Well, if I’m going to say I took two pictures with an iPod, I’ll at least make them look different. Even the waves are the same! And that other guy had a good point when he mentioned that the ipod doesn’t even have a camera. So how were those pictures taken with his new iPod?
September 27, 2007 at 11:32 am |
i just want a flippin ipod touch lol i dont care how the screen is.you people are lucky.
September 27, 2007 at 12:25 pm |
Lunawolf, the two identical photos were not taken using an iPod Touch. An iPod Touch does not have a built in camera. I used a digital camera to take photos of the screen on two different iPods to show the difference between the week 37 and week 38 iPods.

Lunawolf, read this:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=358071
On the contrary, he neer said that he used his iPod touch to take the pictures. Stop trying to attack his facts – the difference between week 37 and week 38 iPod touches is well documented, and you’re making yourself look very, very bad.
September 27, 2007 at 8:26 pm |
Oh, ok, I see. The way the paragraph is written, he doesn’t make it clear where the picture came from. I read the rest of comment #3, which I referenced in my last comment, and he agrees with me.
I wasn’t arguing about week 37 or 38 because I hadn’t heard anything about it and quite frankly don’t give a damn either way. I honestly thought the author was pulling a prank and trying to get people to believe his iPod takes pictures and that the two pictures were of the same woman at a different time.
I look very, very bad?
I wonder, does the author agree that the post may not have been clear, now that two people have commented on the clarity of the article?
That doesn’t serve to ruin my image in any way, contrary to what you might think, azy. Telling someone they look very, very bad on the internet is akin to screaming at a deaf person. I don’t care how I look, but you, sir or madame, write like a zealot by trying to insult me in such a way. Goodnight.

I think the article was well written. It made perfect sense to me. Anyone that was thinking about buying or had an iPod Touch would understand this article perfectly. And I think this article was written for those people and Lonman assumed that those were the people reading it.
Everyone knows an iPod doesn’t have a built in camera!
September 28, 2007 at 12:01 am |
iPods don’t have built in cameras YET you mean
Being someone that is very well informed on iPods, the article made sense to me.
What a difference there was between the two models. I had no idea it was this bad.

How do you find out what week your Ipod Touch is?
September 29, 2007 at 3:21 pm |
Look on the back of your iPod Roleigh, at the bottom you will see a serial number. If it has a 37 in it then it’s week and a 38 means weak 38.
October 3, 2007 at 1:49 am |
Everyone at this point should have a iPod they are happy with. I hope no one is still stuck holding onto a week 37 that wasn’t fixed by the update from Apple. From what I heard most people are happy with the 37s after the update. Of course there are still people who are having problems as well though.
