Well it looks like Apple has come through and it didn’t take them too long. If you were one of the ones suffering from what we all called a “bad screen” that made dark colors look negative (nearly impossible to see) the day you have been waiting for has come. It looks like my earlier post is no longer valid for week 37 iPod Touch models. I will continue to update this as I find out more.

Go on iTunes and download the new software update. It’s a big one, 150 MB. They just say the update is for “bug fixes”.
What it does is basically up the contrast on the screen. This in return fixes the problem for people with “bad screens”. For those of us who waited or returned out other units, have no fear, the update doesn’t make your screen look worse. I have already downloaded the update and can confirm that it doesn’t have a negative effect on week 38 iPods.
Many users from online Apple forums are already reporting success after this update.
If you don’t believe me go and check these sites out for yourself.
I’m happy to see this is finally resolved and if possible please post here once you install the update.
**UPDATE** 6 people with week 37 iPods are confirming that this update has significantly improved their screen. Some are even saying it is now flawless. I have also seen a few people saying that they still have the negative issue after the update. I will continue to post anything I see.
User groggy 23 from ilounge had this to say after installing the update: Another confirmation here! YAY! Video looks even betta!
**NEW UPDATE** 17 confirmations vs. 1 non-confirmation.
**NEWEST UPDATE** Things are looking very good. Almost 100% of people are reporting that the update fixed week 37 problems. Week 38 owners were not effected.

It looks like videos on my week 38 look better as well. Anyone else think so as well?

I can’t notice a difference on mine, but I have only looked at a few pictures and one video.

I think it’s safe to say that the problem is helped by this update. There will always be complainers out there…
My 37 week Touch looks 99% better, I’m no longer thinking about returning.
IMO it will also be harder to return these now as Apple can claim there is a “remedy” to the problem.

I had a week 38 that I got after fighting with Apple to exchange my week 37. The new update doesn’t appear to have any effect on my screen.

I wonder how Apple will react to customers trying to return week 37s now?

any news on 36’s ? I would assume it would fix it, but i don’t want to take a chance opening mine if it is going to have a bad-screen.

You have a 36 Mike?
What was the date you purchased it?

I have a week 38 and it looks just fine. I didn’t take any pictures to post to show a before and after, but I can’t tell any difference.

I haven’t heard of week 36s mike, I had a week 27 and it fixed it, I don’t see why it wouldn’t for you.
It may be hard to return now without the $40 fee also, have you had it more than 14 days?

I just got my mine in the mail yesterday. Used it all day and the screen was flawless. I decided to check for software updates last night. Updated to version 1.1.1 overnight and when I went to use it this afternoon my display was all messed up. It looks like my ipod touch is now suffering from the same negative effect that this update was intended to fix. I had to remove the update to fix it.

My mistake, restoring the ipod didn’t remove the update, but it did fix the ‘negative screen’ issue I was experiencing after I installed the update.

The first time you installed the update it messed up your screen?

It definitely fixed my 37th week itouch. The negative black was much more visible in dark lighting condition before and now it’s gone.

Is there anyway you could send a photo to lonman? A lot of people would like to see a fixed week 37 screen. I saw his e-mail on one of the pages, it’s lonman06@gmail.com
We would all greatly appreciate it!!!!

That would be great if we could see pics of a “fixed” 37 week touch. I haven’t seen pictures anywhere .
