Since I have seen a lot of you asking questions about problems you are having with ROMs or jailbreaking I figured this would be a good way for any of you to directly ask me any questions about problems you may be having. It is hard to look over every post everyday and because of that I think a lot of questions are going unanswered.
If you have a question be sure to post a detailed description of the problem you are having in this comments section. Also give me the link of the post you are trying to follow so I can look it over as well.

Okay, I’ve had a jailbroken iPhone for a few years and I’ve put the NES emulator on it and my ROMS but recently I updated to iPhone OS 3.0.1 and had to redo everything. The problem is that now when I load T-Pot thru TotalCommander (totalcmd) it lists the folder “var” that I’m supposed to put the ROMS into as just a file NOT a folder!
This has never happened before, any clues?
Also, I had GPSPhone (the GBA Emulator) on it with iPhone OS 2.2.1 but now the new version wants me to give them money for it, wtf?! Why would I pay $7 for illegal software that’s 8 years old anyway and doesn’t even come with the GBA’s BIOS

Hi,
i upgraded my ipod touch successfully. thanks for putting it up. now, here’s my problem/question.
i want to dload the ‘ipod touch software upgrade’ it was in teh ‘iJailbreakMobile’ folder. when i open the app, it asks for a password and it just sits there. is there a password that i should know about or am i doing somthin wrong??

update: an error came up after 300 sec. came up. the connection timed out.i started from 1.1.1,
jailbroke to 1.1.2, and used ur method to get to 1.1.3. i will try the source.

In Australia there are no freely available wifi hot-spots and thus I cannot access any web-site with the inbuilt Safari. What are my options? Thanks

hey:
google maps requires a file called GMM.framework which is corrupted with the downloads from the installer sources. so heres a link to a good copy of the file:

unzip the file, then ssh into your ipod and place it in: / -> system -> library -> frameworks. just copy it in there and replace the bad one.

George, as of right now all the Jailbreaks for 1.1.3 require wifi access. As with 1.1.2 and 1.1.1 ways to jailbreak without wireless internet did come out, but I can’t say when that will happen.
Are there any friends that have wifi you could use, it only takes about 40 min to complete the automatic jailbreak process.

Installer is the program that allows you to install 3rd party apps. You can only get installer on your iPod touch by jailbreaking it.

dani, it may be a little tough to get the download to work, you just gotta keep trying. It is because so many people are using it at the same time and the server can’t support all of these people.

dani, ijailbreak lets you install a large variety of third party apps and also installs the iphone apps (mail, maps, notes, stocks, and weather). The 1.1.3 jailbreak will also give you the option of rearranging the icons in your dock and homescreen as well as the ability to add webclips to your homescreen,

In order to SSH you need to have a program on your computer that will allow you to gain access yo your iPod. But before you can do that you must install openSSH in the installer.app. You should also install “services” which allows you to turn SSH on and off.

As for GBA ROMs, you can use the source that I provided. The main GBA source is still down or you can try to manually SSH them onto your iPod. You can find the ROMs by doing a search on google for “GBA ROMs”

hi, I recently got an ipod touch and did the jailbreak on it from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 thanks to your guide. I am going to jailbreak to 1.1.3 very shortly, but I have noticed one thing that is bothering me.
The battery life on my ipod touch has been cut in half

Install services from installer.app and turn off the SSH if you haven’t done so already. SSH constantly being on drains your battery power since it’s always looking for a connection.

hey lonman, i had already upgraded to 1.1.3 and everything was fine, but my friend accidentally pushed the ijailbreak icon on my touch and it began to do something and now my touch is just showing the apple logo but doesnt do anything else. I let the battery die to see if it would start properly again and nothing. Just the apple logo and never start the touch. what can i do? thanks for the help.

Right now the source is having a bit of a problem. Since so many people are trying to use it at the current time (over 30,000) the bandwith is being used up like crazy. Some people have gotten lucky and it worked, while others keep getting timed out. For right now you just have to keep trying. Hopefully the main NES, PSX and GBA ROMs source will be back up sometime this week. I am still continuing to work on a new source and will post it if I have any luck. Keep checking back for the status on the other sources as well as any new ones I may post.

Alright, here we go. When the 1.1.3 jailbreak was released, I jumped to get to it. Supposedly, the method I used was suppose to remove the BSD Subsystem and all my other apps. When I did the softupgrade, it took the apps off my spring board, but when I went to uninstall, they were all still listed. So I decided to uninstall, then reinstall all of them, well, my ipod went wild… stuck with the apps flying all over the place (hard to describe). So I decided to put it into recovery mode. Well so I tried the method with Ijailbreak Mobile and so forth. It went thru the whole install, and did not move after it was done. I left it for a while. So I just caved and just put 1.1.3 on. well, today I have been trying alot of different methods. I tried it again today, but now the Ijailbreaker says permission denied. So I thought instead of downgrading to 1.1.1 and trying to jailbreak to 1.1.3, I downgraded to 1.1.1 then 1.1.2 and then 1.1.3. But still not go. Let me know what you think.

If that’s what you mean, then yes. It is supposed to work better if your ipod is hooked up to some type of external power source.

yes, I tired the downgrade to 1.1.1 then tried the jailbreak to 1.1.3 via ijailbreak moblie. The program would take about 10 minutes, then would finish, but wouldn’t reboot. So then I decided to try to downgrade to 1.1.1 oktoprep to 1.1.2, then jailbreak via ijailbreak moble, but I get stuck at 1.1.2, it says that my ipod is in recovery mode. Now When I just try 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 via ijailbreak moble, it gives me the permission denied on the program. I hope thats not to confusing.

every time i try to add a new source, refresh the sources, or install something from installer its just says refreshing sources and dosent load anything or checking sources and it just dosnent load or loads a little bit. Then i have to shut off my ipod and it says loading time has timed out or something like that.

If you’re getting syntax errors related to a smiley face, refresh your sources, then uninstall iJailBreak, reinstall, and start over.

MIKE are you saying none of your sources refresh? If that is the case that sounds more like a wifi problem than a source problem. If you are doing this out of your house I would suggest resetting your wireless router.

Jordan when you downgraded from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 were you on itunes 7.6 or 7.5?
itunes 7.6 messes up upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2, that could be the problem you are getting when you try to jailbreak from 1.1.2 if you used itunes 7.6. I would go through the entire process and restore once again to 1.1.1 and jailbreak 1.1.1. Once you are there give the ijailbreak one more try and let me know what happens.

For all who are having problems with ijailbreak, read the steps below and make sure you followed EVERYTHING.
1. It’s mission critical that we go to iPod touch’s Settings -> General-> Auto-Lock, and set it to Never. Do that.
2. Launch Installer and you’ll find a new version of Installer is available. Install the Update.
3. You will also update the “Community Sources” package.
4. Now you want to install the “BSD File System” package. You can find it under the “System” category. Reboot your iPod touch by holding down the Power button until the Red Slider appear after installing BSD. Don’t be alarmed that its icon is missing; it doesn’t have one.
5. Launch Installer and add http://ijailbreak.com/repo.plist as a new Source. Refresh your Sources after that.
6. Go to the “iJailBreakMobile” category and select the “iJailBreakMobile 1.1.1″ package to install. You will find a new app by the name iJailBreak after installation.
7. Tap on iJailBreak and let the long jailbreaking process begin! It took mine 35 minutes to complete the process. Once done, the device will try to reboot automatically. If you see that it’s stuck with just a spinning wheel on the screen, it’s safe to manually reboot the device.
8. Congrats, you have jailbroken your iPod touch 1.1.3, but we’re not done yet.
9. Launch Installer and install the “Remove 1.1.3 Jailbreak Data” package. It’s in the “iJailBreakMobile”. You can Uninstall it after it’s done.
10. Okay, we’re really done jailbreaking our iPod touch 1.1.3. You can install 3rd party apps now, and if you have purchase the “January Software Update”, install the updated Apps right away.

If the folder is gone remove the source and then add and refresh it, you should see the folder come back.
As for your other problem, the reason you are getting the whole “ipsp” thing is because you need to install the gameboy bios. That should go away once you install the bios, which can be found in the same source you are using.

Installer Crashes to Springboard : ( Symptom can also be Apps Not displaying on Springboard after install )
Add this source:
sleepers.net/iphonerepo Uninstall all 3rd party apps, then from Utilities add bossTools 034.
Use BossTools to move the Application folder to the media Partition. You know this has worked when
a. It takes about 30 seconds to perform the move
b. The Button that said “Move Applications” now says “Apps Already Moved

Just something I noticed while installing apps after 1.1.3 jailbreak: after each apps u install hit the home button and let the iPod refresh with the new apps. I noticed that when I installed new apps without refreshing, after about the 3rd one it would give me an error when I would download more. I would then restart the touch and it would download again. If I refreshed after each install this would not happen. Just an observation. By refresh I mean hit home after install, let the spinning wheel come in, then slide to unlock and get to the homescreen then install another apps.

Lonman: How can you add photos to the existing I-Touch photo gallery like from another computer without wiping out the existing photo gallery when the Ipod syncs? It’s frustrating, all I want to do is ADD photos to the existing photo gallery.

I keep getting a “permission denied” error after I launch the jailbreak icon. It runs a bunch of script lines that all end in permission denied and then it stops running. Someone earlier said they got that too but just disconnected it from their PC. That didn’t work for me. Can you tell me what I should do, anyone? Thanks.

Peyton, just add the new pictures to the same picture folder that you had your other pictures in. Then once you resync your ipod touch it will add the new pictures.

I performed the jailbreak from 1.1.1. I used jailbreak to do it. I followed a couple of youtube videos which pretty much follow the instructions you laid out earlier in this tread. I tapped the jailbreak icon on the home screen and then it’s supposed to do it’s thing for about 40 minutes but it stops with the permission denied error after a minute each time I try. Thanks.

Hey, when I download one file (the GBA Bios file) from the pinguino360 source, the rom category disappeared! so i can’t get any roms. I tried deleting the source and adding it again and refreshing and rebooting, but it won’t appear. What can I do?

run ijailbreakmobile 1.1.1 again
click the ijailbreak icon
if it doesn’t reboot
restore to 1.1.1 firmware again

If the gba roms category disappears after you have downloaded a rom just go to the uninstall section of the installer and uninstall that rom,the rom won’t uninstall and the gba roms category will reappear.

Hi lonman, when I try to play a GBA ROM it tells me: “Sorry, but iPSP requires a Gamebo Adva…You have an incorrect IOS image” The screen also goes black. Please help!!! I’ve tried downloading gba bios tons of times and no matter what, the same thing.

thanks for the reply, but the problem is that I have one Photo folder on one computer and another folder on my other computer. When I want to add photos from the other computer, the I-pod syncs and wipes out the previous photos and replaces them with the new ones. I just want to ADD PHOTOS to the existing gallery already on my I-pod. Surely there’s a way to do it without have to load the same photo files on both computers !!

Peyton, what you saying is that you want to be able to sync your iPod Touch on two different computers, correct?
As of right now I don’t know of a way that you can do that. The only thing I can think of is to copy all the photos to one computer and save the new photos in a folder called “comp2″ or something like that. Once you sync it you can erase that folder, but make sure that you tell iTunes not to sync that folder every time by unchecking it.
Does that make sense?

thomas, just keep checking it. There are some annoying people out there that keep changing passwords and deleting ROMs. But the password does get changed back and lots of people do upload ROMs back to it. You may want to check the other methods I have posted for now.
Do a search on this site for “gba roms” and you will see a few posts on it. Also the original gba rom repo should be back up “soon”.
Let me know if that works out for you.

dani, the problem with jailbreaking from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 is that a lot of the apps needed to be upgraded to work on 1.1.3. So you will need to start over and install everything again if you want them all to work properly.

hey mike, you dont download from your new account. you download from the account provided. yours must be blank unless you uploaded anything. log in with the other account. if i remember correctly it is the ipodrocks account with the 123456 pass.

dani, the irom source was working very well until today. They say it will be up at least until the send of the month, so I would keep trying that one for now. It has the largest selection of gba roms I have seen.

frank, does it do this on all games or only certain ones? Some games do tend to slow down a bit. One thing that I found out that works is to make sure you quit all other apps before running the emulator. You can do this by opening up the app and then holding down the home button until it force quits it.

hman, unfortunately it is hard to say what times the repos will be up. A lot of them tend to have up and down times. Sometimes you just have to be persistent and eventually it will work out.

Rob, to answer your first question, you need the gba bios. Do a search on my site for gba bios and you will see a source that will give it to you.
As for your second question, have you tried holding down the home button and the sleep button and forcing a restart?

ey lonman, love ur page, its really helpful especially for guys new to jailbreaking, adding sources & stuff. i just tried ur ijailbreak method for a while & i think its working though in our school the internet speed is really slow. eta 6hrs, lol.
so i tried the ziphone method as an alternative, it messed up my ipod man, i already had tons of apps & all on 1.1.1, now its all gone when i udapted to 1.1.3 & tried ziphone… i just hate the whole downgrading & updating all the time.
i learned my lesson that i should’ve just sticked to ur method.. it just sucks coz its like 6-7kb/s so meaning its 6hrs + for it to finish
i’m beginning to think i’m just better off with 1.1.1 …but then again do u know any advantages why i should upgrade to 1.1.3?

i upgraded to 1.1.3 using the jailbreak thing u have and it didnt work, so i downgraded to 1.1.1 and then jailbroke that and upgraded to 1.1.2. that worked fine but when i tried to jailbreak 1.1.2 it says i never installed oktoprep but i did. nisan, installer has been very slow lately and a lot of people are reporting that it is hanging up on them. Hopefully a patch will come out to fix this as it seems to have really happened since 1.13 was released.
There is a way to manually fix this, if you are up to that.
If Installer doesn’t work after upgrading, type these two commands into your favorite SSH client, or Terminal. then reboot.
chmod +s /Applications/Installer.app/Installer
chown -R root:wheel /Applications/Installer.app

zai, 1.1.3 does have a few cool new things, like the wiggly icons that let you rearrange your icons on your homepage. I think the webclips is a pretty cool feature as well.
As for zipphone method, what I have heard is that it conly works on the 8gb iPod Touch right now. I think the main reason for that is because it was made for the iPhone and that is also 8gb.
iJailbreak will release a jailbreak that can actually be done in less than a minute for version 1.1.3. That will mean no downgrading and then upgrading again. I will post a guide once it is available.

steven, from what your saying it sounds like installer isn’t completely install the apps you are trying. I think that is why you are getting a question mark. This is likely do to the problem that installer has been hanging up lately. Delete the apps with the question marks and give it another try.

Nathan, you could SSH into your iPod Touch and unhide it. Do you know how to SSH? If so I can give tell you what you need to get it back. Your other option is to restore the iPod Touch and not make the same mistake again! lol
As for the ROMs, you should see them in “games”. But it depends on which method you used to install them. Certain methods you actually have to go into the emulator app to install them.

ok so I recenly upgraded to a jailbroken 1.1.3 iPod touch. Everything was going fine, I added the iPhone apps and am now able to rearrange icons. I’ve been using the gba emulator and that has been very enjoyable. I also added a bunch of new sources, some very useless but some very helpful. I now have 2 options of the gba emulator because of my abundance of sources. On is version 1.1.2 and the other is 1.5.0. I upgraded to the latter. Now it doesn’t work… It says something like “sorry, but ipsp requires a Gameboy Advance” but the words are all very garbled. I’ve tried to switch to the other version and uninstall and reinstall but none of those have worked. Any suggestions? Thanks

seanafur,if you have openSSH installed, you will need to SSH into your iPod Touch
Once you are in go these 3 things:
- go to /Applications/Installer.app
- select all
- set permission to 755

Steven, are you running the newest versions of installer and everything else? If not you need to update.

Brett, what is the link for the source? And is this the only source that crashes, ot does your installer crash on every source?
If it is yes to the second question, you can either re-jailbreak or SSH and try to fix it. I can do my best to explain how to fix it, but first I’ll wait for your response.

josh, if you upgraded to 1.1.3, you have to be on iTunes 7.6. 7.5 won’t let you upgrade to 1.1.3. Did you do this on a different computer than the one you jailbroke it on? Either way, you should be able to go back down to 1.1.1 and use the ijailbreak method and just jailbreak it from 1.1.1 instead of 1.1.2. Have you tried that?

JC Are you talking about the newest source I added? Is it only this source that gives you the error or any source that you add? If it is every source, you’re going to have to manually SSH into your iPod and fix this, there is no other way.
Once into your iPod
- go to /Applications/Installer.app
- select all
- set permission to 755
If you don’t know how to SSH, do a search on my site for “manually adding NES ROMs”.
Let me know if that works out for you.

okay well i put the file in to mygpsphone.app cause i googled it and that was the answer and now when i try to start the game it gives me the controlls with a black screen for 2 seconds then exits the app

i can find all of the nes roms in the mobile finder and they’re under media then ROMs then NES and the snes roms work fine but the NES roms just wonts show up. I already hav created the folder like i am supposed to.

wow another problem. My iPod won’t play some of my music!!! I don’t see any similarities in the songs that it doesn’t play but for some reason a variety of selected songs refuse to play. I press the play button and it says its playing but the time doesn’t move and no sound comes out. Should I just take it to the apple store? I think I have warranty on it but I’m afraid I voided it because of jailbreaking it. What should I do?!?!

Hello I just wanted to know if anybody knows how to fix this Error. “Error in script command 1: InstallApp” is what pops up and I just can’t seem a way to fix this. When I try to install an app that is new or any previous ones I get this error. I can download some other things fine but there is a vast majority of things that I can’t download. hey i am having the same problem as mike saying how it can’t find host so i cant download anything fron installer. This happened when i downloaded BSD subsystems i really don’t want to restore it to 1.1.1 and i cant seem to uninstall my BSD subsystems .. i know it not my internet connection becauce my laptop runs on the same WIFI and it has no prob. LYD,
first you need to uninstall BSD subsystems by starting up your ipod again (hit sleep and home button for 5 seconds then let go off home button but keep sleep button pressed until apple logo appears), then go to installer, immediately go to uninstall and uninstall BSD subsystem. This should do it. Be sure to click home right after that so it can restart. But the problem is it will only allow install certain things, so when you try to install something it will let install that one thing and it wont let you anymore thus, forcing you to repeat the same process only uninstalling other things.

you need to have mobile finder installed, once you have installed it, go to it and create a folder in your ROMS file entitled “GBA”. Once you have done that and use iShare, click the “..” until you manage to go into that folder and then just click select.

hey, when i use installer to download things, it goes insanely slow. In addition, when i download the larger files, it might even time out. but, when i use Safari to surf the net, it still goes at normal speed. what happened?

Guys, if installer crashes as you install something on 1.1.3, it’s because of the 150mb file that is stored in your ipod when you upgrade to 1.1.3 via installer. There’s no way to get rid of that at the moment. But you CAN do this.
1. uninstall an app (about 500 kb)
2. go to install and install boss tool
3. after it finishes, restart the ipod and go to the boss tool icon
4. press free disk space
5. press relocate fonts. Let it do it’s thing
6. you’ll get about 80mb freed. Now you have almost infinite space for your apps. =]

ben, any luck with those few apps or is is still having problems. I don’t know if there is a fix to that, the same thing used to happen to me and the my router broke. When I bought a new router the problem was gone. Go figure…

Nic, this happened when you jailbroke to 1.1,3?
The music that isn’t working was purchased from iTunes I’m assuming?
If you jailbreak from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3, any music bought from the iTunes store will not work.
If you wish to play your drm’s iTunes music, you need to jailbreak first from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2, and THEN to 1.1.3. Then they’ll play fine.
We are still waiting for a true 1.1.3 jailbreak, once that comes out then everything should work fine.

ben, does installer still think those apps are installed. Check the uninstall tab and see if you see them in there. If you do, delete them and then try it. Let me know if that is the case.

If that is your question, you would really need an sendstation pro account cause you would need massive storage space. Even so, I’m not even sure if you could use iShare to download movies, but anything is possible.

I used sendspace before when I had 1.1.2. But I recently upgraded to1.1.3 I downloaded mobile finder and sendspace again. I then wentbinto mobolefinder and created the folders PSX and SNES and GBA in the roms list under media folder. I logged on to sendspace and put in a file name when I looked for the psx folder all I saw was the nes folder help..

For windows, I would wait for ZiPhone to come out with an iPod Touch supported version. If you want to try you could use the current one made for the iPhone, but it isn’t guaranteed to work.

Jordan, google iBrickr and use that. It will let you directly hook up your iPod Touch to your computer with the charging cable. You can do everything you can in SSH through it.

3. Download Mobile finder
4. Press the ~ icon at the far right corner
5. Click Media, then click create at the bottom of the screen.
6. Click Folder, you should see a folder name ‘untitled folder’
7. Rename it to ‘ROMs’ remember, the R,O and M is capital while the s isn’t
8. Inside the ROMs folder, create another folder call ‘GBA

Spizznice, I’m still working on getting this to work the right way as well. For some reason everyone is having problems with the files. I’m not exactly sure what happened. But if you want to try to unzip drag the roms you see when you SSH into your iPod Touch onto your desktop and just use winzip or any unzipping program to unzip them.

hi, i have an 8gig touch when they first came out, i think i’m running 1.1 as i dont update firmware cuz if its ok thats all that matters but i’m thinking of jailbreaking it but dont know how?
i read it wipes everything is this true?
also i’m scared of bricking it can this happen?

Well, heres my problem: I have a 8GB (1.1.4)and iTunes 7.6 version. I recently jailbreaked mi touch with Ziphone 2.5c versión. As you might know it supports the ipod touch. The thing is I cant install anything from the Installer 3.0. It tells me: PACKED ERROR, CANT FIND HOST, and im coneccted with a full bar WIFI singanl, what should I do?

every time i try to install SwapTunes back it says version 1.1.2 or earlier required and i have a 1.1.3, is there a way i could install this and still keep all that i have, or if i cant, then how can i delete some of the memory i previously had because i think it is taking up space( when i had a jailbroken 1.1.2 i had SwapTunes, then when i upgraged to a jaibroken 1.1.3 i couldnt get it anymore)

I downgraded my 1.1.3 iTouch to 1.1.1. There was a lot of music on my itouch, and after I downgraded the music is missing but there is a chunck of memory under other. How do i fix this so i can get my music back up again with out going through the headbanging 1.1.4 restore?

Re 1.1.4 Jailbreak
I assume this is for Windows only. My ZiPhone 2.5C doesn’t look anything like the one on the video, and the Jailbreak button is only a selector for the Start Process button. After rebooting to normal mode, ZiPhone says ”jailbreak complete” without my doing anything and the Jailbeak and Start Process buttons are grayed out and unresponsive. Quiting and restarting ZiPhone only starts this fruitless process over.

ey lonman, i’m back again to ask for you help. i’m still at a jailbroken 1.1.1, but i’m thinking of upgrading to 1.1.4 then jailbreak it via ziphone.
just wanna ask what did you mean by turning it off? you meaning holding the sleep/wake button till i see the slide to turn off option? after the said process, will the installer app still be there? what new features does 1.1.4 offer?
also i’m just worried since the last time i used ziphone, i successfully jailbroken 1.1.3, after a few mins for some reason the ipod froze. though i think i did everything right.
as i dont wanna experience again the upgrade & downgrade only to get error as it is such a waste of time. thanks man to you and your site for helping people like us. hope you could reply.

running 1.1.3 jailbreak on 8 gig i touch thanks to you and all this great info you have posted.
having trouble with installer i guess, problem is with adding sources, when trying to type source in, device locks up, sometimes i can get the source typed in, but when i clock ok, then it locks up. currently have ssh installed onto device also, but dont know how to use it. tried using putty, sshkit, and winscp, but neither would connect to device. not sure how to fix that either.
please, any and all help with this is greatly appreciated. due to other installs that wasnt really needed/wanted, and locking up because of these, i have had to restart the whole process over 3 times in 2 days, from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 and then installing only the sources and apps that were working fine before the last install that would cause the lockups, but this problem hasnt happened till now. using installer version 3.01 if needed to know
(if must use ssh to fix, remember that i dont know how to yet, would need a tutorial on that one like i was a 3 yr old due to previous programs and not connecting with device errors.

Wondering if you can help … I have an ipod touch that is jailbroken .. was working fine … now when I attempt to open a browser or view mail, the screen goes completely black. UPDATE
i fixed my previous problem only by restoring and breaking again, but this time i stayed at 1.1.2 instead of goin up any further…so far so good.
BUT
what i have now is installer tells me that i have 4 updates available, DROP COPY,
CONVERTER v 0..20
and 2 iPhysics v 1.1
but yet updates dont work, get fail error, and they wont go away!
anyone know how to remove these from list?

When i used Ziphone to jailbreak my 1.1.4 8g touch, it worked fine and dandy. However, when i went onto my ipod, it kept freezing when i went to add sources, and it says “package download failed” all the time. Any ideas?

im not sure but try to copy all the data and files on your ipod and put it in a folder
then update and when finished updating use cuteftp or winscp and copy all the files into applications

I have done that several times now, I actually got the download error to go away by myself. Still can’t add sources. I also have a really weird problem: I can’t play any music from my touch. Period. Kind of a big problem. All of this trouble is almost making me want to just leave it unjailbroken.

Yeah I refreshed the sources and it got stuck at the very end. It’s not even that i get an error about adding sources, it just freezes and i have to force the thing off. At any rate, I bought an ipod for the music, so for now I just restored to unjailbroken 1.1.4. Thanks for the advice though matthew

Same problem as dani i think.
I tried the method with multiple clicking, and ended up with the iPod looping the BSD error:
BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
etc.
But i have no idea how to re-boot the ipod, restore it or anything. Whenever i turn it off, it comes back with the white text and the error, iTunes does not recognize there is even an iPod connected to the computer anymore. It comes back with the error no matter if i turn it on without being connected to the computer or not.
ZiPhone appears to be unable to find the iPod because iTunes cannot.
This is a right pain because I can’t even restore it to an un-jailbroken version, meaning it’s completely useless.

i hv no problems in jailbreaking ipod.
but the problem is… when i was installing 3rd party apps. its says “low memory”… but i ignored it many times… not until it popped up again and STOP WORKING. my ipod is frozen. can’t press anything. it is WORKLESS. i tried restarting it, after opening… STILL nothing happens. keeps on hanging.
i also wanted to try RESTORING it through iTunes. but it seems to be UNDETECTED.

well for dani, plus into your comp, and hold the top button and home button roughfly for about a minute….you should see the apple logo, but still hold it, then it will say connect to itunes which will force restore it.

Do a force restore by holding down the home button and the sleep button until you see an iTunes icon telling you to plug it into your computer. iTunes should then restore it and recognize it again. Then go back to the main lonman06.com page and click on the ziphone 2.6 post. That will jailbreak your ipod perfectly.

Thanks for trying to help Moto, but it still seems not to work.
I turn on my iPod (8gb if that changes anything), hold both buttons down, it turns off, i keep them down.
Then an Apple logo (not iTunes) comes up, if I keep both buttons down it just turns off again, then doesn’t start up again.
If I take one of the buttons or both off it just goes through the white text and BSD loop again.
PS – iPod was not connected to the computer for this time.

halo I have a jailbroken iphone 1.1.4 i installed the nes aplication, and i am trying to put the roms in the folder i am supposed to so: /var/mobile/media/roms/nes. I am trying to eneter this folder using the iphone browser, but it doesnt exist! ON the browser I even do: go to/nes roms/ but the prgram cannot find the folder, a massege pops out and asks if my iphone is jailbroken? please help

after SSHing the files through CuteFTP 8.1 when i try to open the psx roms through psx4all it says “Error Opening CDR component”. The files end in “.Z” so i try to unzip them with WinRAR but when i hit extract files it says “the archive is either in unknown format or damaged”. WinRAR is supposed to associate with Z files so why does it says this?

I tried hacking my ipod touch with ziphone which was really stupid of me. But now it has a black screen and it has a bunch of letters and numbers and it repeatedly keeps saying “bsd root: md0, mahor 2, minor 0″ and i have no idea why or what that means.

My I-tunes program will not recognize my I-Touch. when I connect, I get a pop up that asks if I want to open my “Camera” with Dell picture studio or Microsoft or 2 other programs. For some reason, the I-tunes program won’t recognize the mass storage device as an I-pod, rather it thinks it is camera. I cannot find anyway to change the settings or properties, Can you help ? I tried removing and reloading I-Tunes, the latest version to no avail.

dani, open SSH just allows you to use an external program from your computer to SSH. It doesn’t install a visible app on your ipod touch. But don’t worry, if you installed it, it is there and will do what it is meant to do.

When you jailbreak on 1.1.4, it sometimes will disable your mail or youtube app. I don’t know why, it just happens. It happened to me last time I jailbroke, but I restored my iPhone and jailbroke it again and now my mail and youtube apps still work.
P.S. Does anyone know how I can put ROMs directly to my iappcat repo?(without getting it off of someone elses)

Hey i just recentlly jailbroke my itouch 1.1.4 and it worked fine for like a week but now it says everytime i try to get new apps “Package Download Failed” what the deal, and i am connected to my wifi. To all of u guys who’s ipod is stuck on bsd root or white text..this is wat u need to do to force restore your ipod so itunes can recognize it back..
Step 1: Hold down the “Home” button
Step 2: Hold down the “Standby” button
Step 3: When it says “slide to turn off”, ignore it.
Step 4: It should restart with a blank screen. DO NOT LIFT THOSE BUTTONS YET.
Step 5: An “Apple” icon appears. You can lift the “Standby” button, but keep pressing the “Home” button
Step 6: Once you see a “connector” and an “iTunes” image (looks like when you just bought it), that’s when it’s in Recovery mode. You can lift all the buttons.

i can’t add the “GBA” folder. When i go to the “ROMs” folder and then click create, then folder, it doesn’t create an untitled folder, it just does nothing. I can add folders in the “Media” folder but not when i go into “ROMs”.

for “dock” app you need “bsd subsystem” installed first…plus the sunburst is very small look at the bottom right corner for it…

I tried exactly what it said, pressing the jailbreak button multiple times. It was on a different screen from the video, but possibly because I am on a mac?
All the white words and letters came up, and there was no error. But now my ipod is frozen on a screen with lots of those words and numbers. I’ve tried many things and cannot fix it. Help please!

i have ishare and stuff but my problem is that when i tryed to install bios it woulnt work in a ROMs folder i set up, so i found that it worked if i just selected media and then select. i contiued to download like 3 games, and then went to check on them. when i went to gbSphone, it was emptey, but the ROMs alert was gone. i know the files downloaded, but i have no clue where they went. can you please help me.

i didn’t read carefully that I had to be on firmware 1.1.4 when I used Ziphone, until I started the jailbreak. I thought something might happen, so I said to stop process. !!!!! EVERYONE!! ok i have found a slightly new way of adding gba roms on i touch and you dont need to rely on installer or all that sshing crap…… things you will need
Mobile finder(download it off installer)
Gpsphone(installer)
big boss prefs(installer)
Safari DL plug in(installer)
make sure safari dl is on in big boss prefs. Go to any gba rom site that offers direct downloads simply download the game. When you click download a green box will appear that says download click download and it will begin…..when its done it will be in the downloads file in Mobile finder just open mobile finder and click the ~ in the upper right corner NEXT to the apple.double click downloads….here are your gba downloads you just downloaded….Highlight the gba file and click file,move…..now click the ~ again and go to media….click roms…..than gba….When in gba click paste (bottom right of the screen)…..Than go to your gba emulator(gps phone) and play your roms
i just thought i should share my knowledge i have been looking how to get gba roms for around five months now

it kept saying this over and over i thought it was normal, since it had said that on the site but it started taking a veeerrryy long time. i unplugged it with out the whole process finishing and i thought that since i had cancelled that it would erase all that, well GUESS WHAT , IT DIDNt i dont know what to do it doesnt even show up as plugged in to my computer what i mean is itunes doesnt open because it thinks it isnt there. the words keep showing up even while the ipod is unplugged. i really dont understand it i tried restoring but nothing was fixed by this.i cant even work the ipod its like its all gone and this is just a little screen with a virus. What can i do? Can you please help me?

Hold the wake/sleep button with the home button untill you see the connect with itunes picture when you are holding it your ipod should turn off then turn back on then turn off once more then show the plug into iTunes picture then restore it and try to jailbreak it again

Hey.. i have a rather bad problem and i think i bricked my ipod….. i was installing ziphone and it was writing the files when the white text finished, the “Z” picture popped up and it said it was installing something (i dont remember what it said exactly) it took about 25 mins and i got disturbingly impatient so i pressed and held the sleep and home button until the ipod was rebooted and white text was scrolling again and it stopped and a white text came up that said exactly this

this is my brothers school autobody technician project that i changed around…..read it if your bored, youll laugh garunteed!!!
For my project I am going to make a car fender look like a Penis. I chose this project because at the other tech school I went to before I went to North Montco it was a requirement of the senior project and I watched all the other seniors blow eachother so i decided i’d started to practice for my senior project. I was ready to practice my senior project at home on my dog and my gay friend, Andrew Pulver A.K.A Pulverizer (they call him that because he pulverizes dudes assholes with his giant weiner. I hope when I am done the project the fender will be look like a Penis so that people could not tell that the fender was ever from a normal car. when I do my presentation people will not be aroused by my project. I will do the project by first getting a fender with no damage and cut the fender in half using a chain saw and then I will begin the skeeting process on the metal. Then i will begin the process of bending them so they form the shape of the inside of the fender then I will punch 5 inch holes on the end of the sheet metal then I will use a spot welder to put spot welds on the fender to keep the fender together then I will use a grinder to grind the metal down sort of thin so I could work on the back easier then I will use angel hair (angel hair is like pubic hair, same material) to fill in the back and front of the fender after that I will let it dry for probably a month then I will use 3 billion grit sand paper to sand the angel hair down until it forms the shape of a penis and inside of the fender and sand it down a little bit more so it looks like a scrotum sack. Then I will mix my skeet and put it on top of the angel hair and sand that down with 2 million grit sand paper until it matches the fender then I will make sure that there is no dry skeet marks on the automobile fender and do a little bit of touch up and use 3 million grit sand paper to make the spot smooth and ready to paint then I will paint the fender using my skeet. i will proceed the skeeting process, then i will sand down whole fender using 10 billion grit sand paper then I will paint the fender by first by putting on the base coat then the clear coat and spray the fender right so there is no runs and hopefully there will be no problems then the fender will be done. I will need a sanding block to sand down the angel hair and the original car paint. I will also need to make sure the skeet dries good to make the welds on the fender. I will need to use my weiner to apply the skeet and pubic hair to the fender smoothly. I will need a hot girl like julie to make me skeet on the fender, obviously that will be the clear coat for the fender. I think that’s every thing I need to do the project. My goals for my project are to get the project done without getting blueballs.Ok, listen up motherfuckers, i demand people to be impressed with my project and i better get at least an d+ grade on the project. try turning off the wifi, then refreshing it, that usually goes way faster except it doesnt really refresh and it should say “error could not refresh sources” but its alright, then just go ahead and delete away

I had the same problem as tim, but i kepot on trying to restart it in home mode (press and hold the home button while starting, and it has to be connected) this did not work about 10 times, but then it did and i was able to restore my 16gig iPod Touch. So, just keep trying that, it should work

i’m having this problem about recognition from my computer to my ipod, when i connect the ipod to the computer it is recognized as a camera or something, the pc knows it’s an ipod but it doesn’t start at itunes even if is open when connecting the ipod. i tried connecting other ipod, (clasic for example) and the itunes recognized it as well without problem.

Download Ziphone if you dont already have it. i think its ziphone.net. after you have it downloaded, go to advanced options. First make sure your ipod/iphone is on AND itunes has recognized it. then have ziphone force your device into restore mode and then restore your iproduct with itunes

hey man i have a ipod touch and it just kinda got messed up if u could help me i would realy apriciate it. so my ipod was jail brocken and i originally had firmware 1.1 and i had dowloaded the firmware changer from installer and i upgraded to 1.1.4 so i could get maps and weather then i tried to dowgrade to 1.1.1 and it did after the ipod rebooted. now when the ipod restarded instead of the normal ipod touch menu there is this realy weird screen that shows some weird code. the code is kinda like this

yo people i found this on the internet simple and best way to jailbreak your ipod touch simply update it to 1.1.4 and download ziphone from http://www.ziphone.org it says to download it on homepage in big letters then unzip it run the ziphone gui then runthe second option says jailbreak and remember to have ipod connected words will come across the screen of your ipod it will of course restore your ipod so back things up if you want and your done easy as that i had no problems and its totaly safe i also scanned it with Nod32 (i’m a safety freak) if it does not work (it most likely will but IF) then restore and update and maybe run “auto down” (just search for the download) you probebly don’t need to but ya thats it it perfect i have no problems with it happy hacking

Hey my Touch keeps sketching out on me. The screen randomly starts turning blue and green and flashing with lines and such. Then when I can get it to stop flashing it takes a few minutes for the iPod to be able to turn back on correctly. Sometimes it brings up the apple symbol then starts sketchin out again… Any thoughts? hello, i recantly downloaded, for my ipod touch software 2.0 and it was going fine it downloaded and everything. but after it was done downloading a message came up i forgot what it said i think something about backing my ipod up so i clicked yes and than it said something about how i have 11 gb on my ipod in use a 3 gb not in use and something again about backing my ipod up ( it was 12:30 in the morning so i was alittle tierd). i think i clicked no for some reson but i am not for sure. and now when i plug my ipod in it say “your ipod is in recovory mode you need to restore your ipod” i click restore and it says do you whant to restore and update. i click the restore and update button and it goes through a procces about 30 seconds and than it say “an unexpected error occered{2003}”. do you know a soultion to get it out of recovory mode or should i email apple and ask whats can i do. (i also have an apple store close by i was thinking i should go there but if i am just missing something or it is an easy fix than it would save me a trip)

well i am having a problem with the new program, i believe that i am doing everything right. i have itunes 7.7 i my itouch in dfu mode, and everything else mentioned after i create my custom ipod touch then i pwne itunes it shows a message sayin it was killed and successful. after that i reopen itunes and hold shift and click restore and click my custom restore i get an uknown error 1403 right away it doesnt do anything before that. ive tried over and over again and i still get the same message please help.

Doesn’t work for me. It does get me past the BSD Root Error the first time, but no matter what I do, my 16GB iPod Touch would get stuck in the looping.
I have tried turning off my iPod immediately after I bypass the BSD Root Error first time, but when I manually restart it afterwards, it will just go into the loop.

I have the newest version of the iPod touch and everything was fine until my brother downloaded Boss Tool even though I didn’t want it. I tried uninstalling it and so it froze. So I restored it with iTunes and then when it was done syncing all my data, I tried jailbreaking my iPod Touch again. Ok, I jailbroke my Touch like 6 months ago and everything worked fine. When I accidentally downloaded the newest Apple update it removed all my apps and stuff. But that’s not really the problem. When I’m in the middle of a song or on safari it suddenly exits out and returns to the home screen. It has been happening more frequently. I am worried that it might be a bug from the apple update. Is this a common issue?

Hi,
I received an iPod Touch for my birthday, I loved it for 2 days and now, I am thinking of bringing it back to the store as the main purpose for why I bought it does not work…
I cannot upload photos from my computer to it, using the correct technique ( The iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error has occured (-50).
What can I do to upload photos then?
THEN, also, how can I download my iTunes playlists into my iPod Touch, they only download individually?

i tried using winpwn2.5 and it keeps showing “Attempted to read or write protected memoy. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. Application will close.”
I restored my ipod to 1.1.4 and used winpwn2.5 using 2.0 for firmware….
then i tried jailbreaking it with ziphone back and now its junk, it wont download and it keeps freezing…
please help, i dont know what else to do…

I created a playlist named Christmas for my Ipod touch. Is there a way to uncheck the Christmas songs from the library but not from the playlist so that I don’t have to listen to them all year long? If not, what can I do?

I have a gen 1 ipod touch and when I try to jailbreak it it disconects fron itunes and the ipod tells me to connect to itunes and has the usb connection pic on it to, a friend was able to jailbreak it for me but cydia doesnt work and innstaller gives me invalid sourses (iappcat.com) when I try to restore ipod from itunes it disconnects and thenwont connect back to itunes. any suggestions?

I just got a 16gb iPod touch, 1st generation. I use Windows XP. I cannot download pictures. When I follow your instructions for syncing pictures my screen does not have a bar at the top with options. I can’t find “photos” anywhere. When I first installed my iPod I got the “Summary pane” but have never seen it again. The window you show on your site never pops up.

Hey, thanks for the steps on how to add pictures to your ipod touch. It was very helpful. My only question now, is how do I add newly taken photos, because everytime I click on the folder it is in, it only brings up the old photos. And I tried adding a new folder to my photo software and that folder doesn’t show up on my ipod page. Confused? Because I am! Any help would be great!

Hey. I’m not quite sure you can help me, but I’m really hoping you can.
I was having trouble with my ipod and getting rid of a movie on it that I didn’t want, because it wasn;t working. I asked my friend for help, and he told me to plug in my ipod, and when iTunes pops up, hit ‘Register Later’ and go into the ‘movies’ section. So, I did. He then told me to delete the vidoe off my itunes that I didnt want, and then re-sync all my videos. When I went to hit sync, an error box popped up. It basically said, that if I wanted to re-sync my movies it would remove all my songs and things from my ipod. I didnt want that, but my friend told me that it would be okay, and to continue on and go ahead and hit ‘Okay’. I was skeptical, but I did.
While it was syncing, I was debating whether or not to let it continue. My friend said it would be okay. So, I let it finish. When it finished, I immediately checked all my songs. They were all gone. My pictures and videos were still there, but my songs were gone. Needless to say, I got pretty frusturated with my friend. So, I tried to sync my songs back onto my ipod. Which didn’t work. It wouldnt let me put my songs back on. So, Im pretty much frusturated at this point.
So, to sum it all up : I tried to re-sync my movies, lost all my songs, and now my songs wont go back onto my ipod. Im totally lost at what to do. So I’m really hoping you can help me. Any suggestions? It would really help. Thanks very, very much.

I got an iPod Touch for Christmas last year which was only about four months ago and just now I have been receiving a problem with it. I was looking at my birthday list in the notes section when all of a sudden the screen went white. I went on the iTunes troubleshooting website and thought that holding the home and sleep button at the same time would help. It shut off but when I turned it back on it was still white. I tried to charge it, but when I plugged it into my computer the white screen started flashing. Now I have been restarting it over and over and sometimes the white screen shows up but at other times the screen is pink, blue, and yellow, I have absolutely no clue what to do to fix it. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I think I figured it out!!! I went on to a blog that was talking about the same problem with ther iPod Touches and somebody said that after you hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button together to keep pressing the home button but stop pressing the sleep/wake button. I tried it when it was connected to my computer, and my computer recognized that the iPod was attached to it, to where before it wasn’t recognizing it. Then I just pressed the restore button on iTunes and hopefully it will work and this won’t happen again. I hope you didn’t already waste your time to email me before, and if you did I’m sorry.

When I turn off my ipod touch 16 (1st gen) it refuses to stay off and the apple screen flashes on and off. In addition, when I try to play any of the apps from the app store, the app lookes like it is loading but it goes back to the home page. I tried resetting it, but i am still having the same problems! It is, of course, out of warranty! I am unaware of any damage to it as I am the only one who uses it. Its driving me batty!

I had the same exact problem. Mine would open for about a second and then go back to the home screen… What I did was I restored the ipod after backing it up onto itunes, and VOILA! Problem was solved

hello. my ipod worked fine in atl. i have apps and was able to use them. i get back to fla in my house – which is also wireless – and am able to download more apps – but when i click on any app – it opens up for a second and disappears. i still have internet access but not sure why none of my apps are able to work.

Hi, I have been having problems with my iPod Touch, obviously. I have downloaded a lot of apps, and it has taken up a lot of room at all! Just today, I went on my iPod, and decided to play a game, and as I clicked it it popped up onto the screen and when back to the contents of all the apps, every application I have, it doesnt work, except the ones that were orginally there.
