For everyone that had been waiting for a 3.1.2 jailbreak on your iPod Touch and iPhone (thanks to Blackra1n) , now is the time to finally update! While this process is relatively painful, there are a few things you need to know if you are new to this whole concept.
First off, unfortunately there is still not a complete working jailbreak for the new third generation (3G) iPod touch. This will work for the first and second generation (1G and 2G) as well as the new iPhone 3GS.
So if you are windows user, click here.
And have no fear mac users, you can get it here.
**UPDATE** The above links are down, go here to get them.
As always, before doing anything, I highly suggest syncing your iPod touch or iPhone to iTunes and backing it up just in case anything goes wrong.
Once you have completed backing up your device, just unzip the files if you are on a mac and install the .exe file if you are on a PC.
Once the program is running, you will see a box on your screen with a clickable button saying “make it ra1n”.
If you haven’t already done so, connect/reconnect your iPod Touch/iPhone to your computer and click this button.
This whole process should only take a minute or less, you will know everything has worked successfully if you see this image on your screen before your device reboots:

And there you have it, you have successfully jailbroken your ipod touch/iphone on the new 3.1.2 operating system!
For those of you who are new to this whole process, check back as this week I will be posting an article on “must have” applications to install to truely get the most out of your new 3.1.2 jailbreak.
As always, if there are any problems feel free to post them below.

At first i was a bit skeptical about giving this a try on my new baby (32gb iphone 3gs), but i went ahead with it anyways and i couldn’t be more happy with the results.
I’m waiting for your followup on this lonman!
And i say for anyone worried about doing this and messing things up, if i can do it anyone can.

@ Ahmad
How long did you wait?
I saw the pic for about 45 seconds before it turned into the apple booting page. Very simple then when my ipod touch came back on I saw a new icon, black ra1n and clicked on that and installed cydia.

1. Hold down your home button and the sleep button on the top until you see an itunes icon.
2. Plug your ipod touch into your computer. iTunes will ask you to restore your ipod.
3. Once it has been restored and your backup files have been put back on, try to do it again.
